Role of ICT in Examination
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), means to use technology and its inventions to gather, store, present information and also to communicate it with people who are situated remotely.
It can be done with various modes that are available, such as television, radio, email, and the best and most used internet. All these are tools of ICT.
Today, ICT is used in almost every aspect of our lives, whether it’s broadcasting information, communicating with people around the globe, health sector, so it is obvious that the education sector also uses it, ICT’s scope in the educational field has widened, it is used for many purposes it helps school management in the construction of curricula, construction of books- textbooks, assessment tests, and to teach virtually.
But, in this article, we are going to know how ICT helps in the field of examination.

Construction of Question Papers:
In any examination, the question paper is a must-have, to construct a question paper, many things have to be kept in mind, the examination committee has to analyze the syllabus, check the validity and reliability of the questions selected, and much more.
But all this work is made easy because of computers. With the help of computers, the construction of Question Papers can be done in no time.

Question Banks:
The examination committee has a list of types of questions that are to be given in exams, this is called question bank.
They have to store many question banks, to use as reference in exam times. Nowadays storing them is easy because of computers.
Online Examination:
Today most of the education is done online, teachers teach online through online classes app, and many schools and colleges have started to take examinations online too.
The whole examination process, like submitting the exam form, preparing the list of examinees, and giving students information regarding the exams is given online, then the exam is conducted for which students have to reach their allotted exam centers, where they sit in front of computers and give the exam online.
Open book examination (OBE) is the new form of online examination in which students give exams from their home on their mobiles or devices, during this pandemic OBE has been used by educational institutions.
Online Invigilation:
With examinations being conducted online, the invigilating process has also been upgraded, now exam centers have CCTV cameras installed in classes to monitor movements of students, and in the case of OBE an invigilator or teacher is allowed on every 15-30 group of students, in this students have to keep their cameras on while giving exams and the invigilator monitors them so they don’t use any unfair means.
Checking Answer Sheets:
If exams are being conducted online. Evaluation of answer sheets is also being done online with the help of computers, it not only makes the work of examiners easy but also ensures that accurate and fair evaluation of answer sheets are.
Giving the marks that the examinee deserves according to his or her answers.
Preparation and Declaration of Results:
Before computers the teachers have to check and tabulate each answer copy on their own, requiring them to give their lots of time and energy.
But all this was made easy after Online examinations, now computers evaluate, tabulate, and prepare the results, saving a lot of effort and time.
After the result is prepared, education institutions put the results online on their websites from where students can check their results immediately.
Certificates and Mark sheets:
Results being declared online also resulted in the online distribution of Certificates and Mark sheets.
Students are sent their certificate/ mark sheets on their e-mail ids from where they can download it and can store it with themselves. In 2020 when educational institutions were closed.
All the students Graduating that year were given their certificates and mark sheets through this medium.
